Description
Sensual and soulful singer-songwriter Alice Di Micele will return to Chico to play at the Museum of Northern California Art (monca) on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 7 PM. With a vocal and musical range that goes far beyond folk into jazz, rock, blues, and R&B, southern Oregon’s Alice Di Micele has enchanted audiences for more than three decades with her smoky vocals and accomplished, percussive guitar. Di Micele’s latest CD “Every Seed We Plant,” her 16th, takes a deep dive into the many emotions of our collective condition: grief, loss, depression over our many challenges but also hope and joy at the simple act of being present for each other. Many of us locally will resonate with her song “Rise,” an anthem to resilience to all who have survived the devastation of wildfire. Alice will be accompanied for this very special show by bassist Rob Kohler, best known for his work with the band This World and a bass instructor at the Stanford Jazz Workshop. Here’s some press Alice Di Micele has received over the years: "...a full, resounding, articulated voice sounding as if it had spent an age reverberating through deep caverns, gathering force before erupting into the open." Jim Foley — KXCI "Her songs speak of rivers and trees, of salmon and the ocean, and she sings them with a clear, powerful voice with a range through several octaves." Northcoast Journal "Hearing Alice Di Micele's rich, honest, and full-toned voice, even unaccompanied by her accomplished guitar playing, has an effect on you that you won't soon forget. She sings from every cell of her being, with a healing intent, a simmering intensity, and an exuberant joy." Susan Dobra — Magical Blend "Alice's music has that great combination of earthiness and groove that keeps it funky from the inside out. She's for real." Bonnie Raitt — Entertainer The monca exhibit that will be on display in the rooms will be “Sisko Lives,” a collector’s exhibition of art by legendary Chico artist David Sisk, aka Sisko. Sisko’s socially astute, edgy yet humorous art popped up everywhere from billboards to lampposts and never failed to create a complex emotional response. This show will bring Sisko’s creations together for an 8-week exhibition at monca from April 14 to June 12 and will be on display for all Alice Di Micele concert-goers to enjoy. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Seating is limited. Tickets are $20, available online at Eventbrite.com or at the door if not sold out. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) is at 900 Esplanade, across from Chico High.
