FERNLEY, NV — Naomi Irion, an 18-year-old woman found slain in a makeshift gravesite in rural Churchill County, was shot to death, and prosecutors said her killer tried to cover his tracks by destroying her cell phone and disposing of his truck tires. That's according to court documents filed by the Lyon County District Attorney's Office and obtained by the Reno Gazette Journal. As Reno Patch previously reported, surveillance video appeared to show a masked and hooded man walk into a Walmart parking lot, circle Irion's car and then force his way in. Authorities, following a tip, found her body in a gravesite and arrested Troy Driver, 41, of Fallon, in connection with her killing. In the amended criminal complaint filed Tuesday, prosecutors charged Driver with first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnapping, robbery, burglary of a motor vehicle and destroying evidence. Driver abducted Irion in her 1992 Mercury Sable on March 12 as she waited for a shuttle that would take her to her job at Panasonic, prosecutors said. He then drove her car with Irion inside and took her to a remote area in northern Churchill County "for the purpose of committing sexual assault and/or for the purpose of killing her," prosecutors said. A Nevada coroner's office determined she was shot in the head and chest, KLAS reported. Driver tried to conceal his identity by disposing of tires from his truck, burying Irion's body and destroying her cell phone, prosecutors alleged. He was expected to appear in court Wednesday in Fernley.
