ST. CHARLES, IL — A commission is looking at implementing a bag fee at stores in St. Charles as a way of doing its part in reducing waste and helping the environment. The St. Charles Resources Commission presented its proposal to the St. Charles City Council Monday and discussed the possibility of enacting the 10 cent per bag fee for those who do not bring their own bags to the store, according to the Kane County Chronicle. Under the proposal, 40 percent of that fee would go back to the store, 50 percent would go to the city and 10 percent would be allocated to the Kane County's Division of Environmental and Water Resources, Loren Nagy, chair of the St. Charles Natural Resources Commission, said during Monday's meeting. Batavia is also considering a bag fee. More via the Kane County Chronicle
