Press release from Jackson County Prosecutor: April 1, 2022 A 29-year-old KC man has been charged in the fatal shooting March 29, 2022, of David Rove outside closed Independence gasoline station, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today Aaron L Simmon Jr., dob: 3/15/1993, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Acton.* According to court records, Independence Police Department officers were dispatched on the evening of March 29, 2022, to the area of the 4200 block of South Noland Road on a shooting. Officers found the victim, suffering from multiple gunshots. Emergency personnel quickly determined the victim was deceased. A witness told police that the victim had talked to the suspect just before the shooting when they encountered each other outside a closed gas station. The witness stated that after the suspect and victim had words with each other. the suspect shot the victim. A police search warrant was obtained to search the suspect's residence and a gun found there was determined to be the weapon that was used to kill the victim. Prosecutors requested the defendant be held on a $250,000 bond.
