Description
Press release from the Village of Northbrook:
April 5, 2022
The Village wants your input! Recently, the Sustainability Commission proposed draft language for an ordinance that would create a fee of 10 cents on single-use shopping bags, applying to retailers over 3,000 square feet. The strategy is intended to support Climate Action Plan goals for waste reduction. Applicable businesses would be required to collect 10 cents for each bag used for purchases, with five cents retained by the business and five cents remitted to the Village to fund sustainability initiatives. The proposed ordinance would apply to paper and plastic bags, with some exclusions.
Northbrook residents interested in sharing their thoughts may attend a virtual meeting on Wednesday, April 20, at 10am. Northbrook retailers that would like to provide input may attend a virtual meeting on Thursday, April 21, at 4pm. Contact the Village's Sustainability Coordinator at [email protected] to get the applicable meeting link.
