Press release from San Diego Community College District:
April 5, 2022
Trustees Dr. Maria Nieto Senour, Craig Milgrim, and Geysil Arroyo will serve another four years on the San Diego Community College District's Board of Trustees after running unopposed in the 2022 election.
Elections in trustee districts A, C, and E were scheduled this year for the three incumbents, but the deadline passed for those seeking to challenge for these seats, with no one stepping forward. Instead of having a ballot with the incumbents running unopposed, the primary and general elections are being canceled, saving the District approximately $320,000.
The citizens of San Diego elect the five members of the SDCCD Board of Trustees, on a staggered basis, in even-numbered years during primary and general elections.
The primary elections are limited to specific trustee areas (districts). For each seat, the two individuals who receive the most votes in the primary election then go on to stand in the general election, which is also now conducted by-trustee area (prior to this year, the general election was held citywide).
"One of the key features of a successful organization is not only the talent and dedication, but also the longevity of its leadership. The fact that no challengers decided to come forward this year is strong evidence that our District is viewed by the public as well run and deserving of community support," said SDCCD Chancellor Carlos O. Cortez.
The three trustees will each take their oath of office later this year at the December Board of Trustees meeting.
