FRANKFORT, IL — Students at Hickory Creek Junior High in Frankfort got a chance to visit the nation's capitol March 25-27. Around 55 students made the trip to Washington, D.C., along with six parent chaperones, said Suzanne Das, one of the parent chaperones. Highlights from the trip included visits to: Mount Vernon; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial; the Vietnam Veterans Memorial; the Korean War Veterans Memorial; the Lincoln Memorial; and Roosevelt Memorial Park. Students and chaperones also visited the Smithsonian Institute museums, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and met a World War II veteran there during her honor flight to Washington, D.C. "Along with my fellow chaperones, we are all proud of the Hickory Creek Middle School eighth graders for taking this opportunity to experience all that the United States Capital offers, and making it a successful trip," Das said. "This truly was a trip where the memories will last a lifetime." Some of the photos from the trip can be viewed below. (Photos provided by Tania Rempert)
