DANVILLE, CA — Danville's Housing Site Suggestion Map closes to public input on Friday. The tool was introduced as part of Danville's Housing Element, mandated by the state, to identify where and how the town plans to accommodate housing needs for all income groups. Residents can drop pins on the map where they think new housing could be. The Housing Element was put in place after the State of California declared a housing affordability crisis. The San Francisco Bay Area has to create a plan to add more affordable housing in an eight-year period. Danville is required to add 2,241 new homes in its plan. The town is mandated to add housing regardless of available land capacity. The map opened in March and closes April 8. Suggested sites will be evaluated against the California Department of Housing and Community Development site criteria, and used to create a list of potential housing sites in the next phase of the effort.
