Dearborn Police Cracking Down On Engine Revving, Loud Mufflers

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn Police said they are cracking down on drivers who like to rev their engine with loud after-market mufflers. "The big complaint we get today are quality of life concerns regarding loud mufflers, excessive noise, and revving of engines, especially in our neighborhoods," Captain Dan Bartok said in a clip on Facebook. Police said they will be writing tickets for excessive noise complaints to drivers who needlessly engine revving and loud mufflers, as it constitutes a motor vehicle violation, police said. Police officials also said these types of violations "impact the quality of life in our neighborhoods and pose many other potential safety hazards." Police encouraged residents to submit a complaint here or by calling the police department at 313-943-3030. The crackdown also comes at a time when Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin introduced a new traffic safety program, were officers will shift their focus to speeders and reckless drivers throughout Dearborn's neighborhoods.
