Woman, 20, Charged With 2nd Degree Murder In Tucson Hit-And-Run

TUCSON, AZ —A woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Tucson on March 24. Two pedestrians were seriously injured in the incident, and one of them —a 79-year-old man— later died, according to the Tucson Police Department. Elaine Vernette Boone, 20, was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Pima County Jail on charges of aggravated assault dangerous instrument, aggravated assault serious injuries, and for an outstanding warrant of second-degree homicide. Additionally, police said Boone had two outstanding warrants on which she was booked. During an investigation, the TPD's Violent Crimes detectives identified Boone as a suspect in the case, and she was arrested Tuesday near E. Pima Street and N. Columbus Boulevard in Tucson. According to police, just before 4:30 p.m. on March 24, officers from the TPD's Operations Division Midtown responded to reports of a collision involving two victims outside a 7-Eleven in 1000 block of N. Columbus Boulevard near Speedway Boulevard. Police said officers arrived at the scene to find two victims —a man and a woman — in the parking lot suffering from life-threatening injuries sustained in a collision with a vehicle. According to police, the suspect had fled the scene on foot prior to their arrival. Both victims —the man has been identified as Anthony Amos, but police have not yet revealed the name of the woman —were transported to Banner University Medical Center. On Saturday, Ames died from injuries he sustained at the scene, according to authorities. The TPD said that during the investigation, officers determined that the incident had not been a pedestrian accident. According to police, the TPD's Violent Crimes detectives learned there had been a confrontation in the parking lot and detectives believe the suspect struck the victims with a vehicle.
