SCOTTSDALE, AZ —The Scottsdale Public Library on Thursday is offering a unique combination of living it up and learning at a program called "Local History Happy Hour: Water!" The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a Happy Hour — complete with "mock-tails" and a light snack — at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library's Copper Gallery, located at 3839 N. Drinkwater Boulevard. At 5:30 p.m. in the building's auditorium, community historian Joan Fudala will present a program that explores Scottsdale's water history, from the development and use of the canals to the city's current reclamation and conservation innovations that are being emulated by municipalities around the world. "(Water): this five-letter word is perhaps the most crucial element in Scottsdale's dramatic evolution from an arid desert to a farming/ranching settlement, to a desirable destination for tourism, business and families," the city said in a description of the program. The city said the event is being held in celebration of the Scottsdale Water Department's 50th anniversary. Registration for the event is encouraged, but not necessary, and can be done on the Scottsdale Public Library website.
