DENVER, CO—Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will not extend the city's stay-at-home order for a second time. The public health order is set to expire this Friday at 11:59 p.m., a spokesperson for the city confirmed to Patch.
Initially, Hancock's stay-at-home order was scheduled to expire near the end of April, but he extended it through May 8.
The mayor has not said what steps will be taken after Friday, but his spokesperson said he does plan to hold a news conference on Tuesday to provide additional details. At that time, the mayor is expected to provide an update on Denver's response to COVID-19, including guidelines for re-opening businesses and additional information on testing and contact tracing.
Hancock has already issued a public health order requiring people in certain public settings to wear a face covering beginning Wednesday and lasting until further notice. Under the order, residents and employees will be required to wear face coverings while inside of, or waiting in line to enter, certain businesses, facilities or locations – such as any retail or commercial business, at a bus stop or facilities offering health care services.
"The virus isn't going away any time soon. By wearing a face covering, you're doing your part to reduce the spread of infections and keep everyone safer," the mayor recently said.
A person caught violating the order could face a civil penalty of up to $999 per violation.
