The Summer Free For All program includes: Free Lunch + Play programs; Movies, Concerts, and Events in the parks; Arts Pods; and CMC In The Park. Please follow the link below in order to apply. This includes a daily commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. FREE LUNCH + PLAY The Free Lunch + Play program is from June 21 - August 26, 2022. During this time children and families spontaneously “drop-in” to various parks and mobile sites to play, make friends, participate in activities, and eat a free meal onsite. Some children and families will return to the same sites frequently, while others may visit only once. Staff provide drop-in recreation activities such as arts n’ crafts, sports, and games to youth and families, give out meals as part of the Federal lunch program, and provides a fun, safe experience for children in our parks. All staff are expected to be inclusive, friendly, reliable, and eager to play with diverse groups of children and youth during their entire shift each day. All Free Lunch + Play positions are physically active, high-energy jobs that take place in various types of outdoor spaces and weather. Must be able to lift and move 20 pounds throughout the shift each day. EVENTS PROGRAM (Movies, Concerts & Events) Works as a member of a team to prepare for and deliver movies, concerts, and other special events as needed. Sets up and tears down equipment including stages, audio/visual equipment, inflatable movie screens, popcorn machines, generators, tents and other supplies. Loads and transports equipment to parks in city vehicles and operate a lift gate as needed. Creates welcoming atmosphere, engages with park users and event guests of all ages, sponsors, food vendors, and performers. Provides excellent customer service and is a resource for PP&R information. Maintains clean facilities and/or park spaces, monitors use of space and needs of guests, is proactive in addressing potential safety concerns, upholds the PP&R code of conduct, communicates with supervisor, rangers and security under established guidelines. Driver’s License preferred. These hours may be weekdays and weekends, afternoons, evenings and late evenings up to and past midnight. ARTS PODS (Mobile Art/Music Studios) Arts Pods are an outreach program of Multnomah Arts Center and Community Music Center bringing art and music experiences to the public in parks and other community locations throughout the city. An Art Pod is a self-contained mobile unit which provides free, safe, on-site, drop-in, enriching community arts and music experiences. CMC IN THE PARK The Community Music Center runs classes, lessons and ensembles outdoors in parks. They are led by Specialized Arts Instructors and supported by Counselor I and II positions. RECREATION ASSOCIATE - COUNSELOR I Summary: Counselors organize, plan, and lead a variety of activities including art, crafts, music, performance, science, games, nature, and sports in addition to supporting the physical, social, and cognitive development of preschool and school-aged participants. Positions will be responsible for maintaining discipline and safety while monitoring youth, consistently modeling appropriate behavior, maintaining accurate program records, and performing maintenance duties as assigned. This is a seasonal position with flexible hours and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours can be assigned verbally and depend on enrollment levels, needs of the program, and other factors. There is no guarantee of the number of hours needed each week nor the number of hours worked from week to week. Employees in this position serve at will. On-Call Sub position works well for those who need more flexibility during the summer, such as those who are going to summer school, have a second job, have existing commitments during the week, or are taking 3+ vacations during the summer months. Locations: North Portland, Northeast Portland, East Portland, Outer East Portland, and Southwest Portland Shift Range: Monday through Friday 11am-3pm. Hours will vary depending on staffing needs throughout the summer. They arrive on site where Arts Pod vehicles are assigned each day. They set up and tear down equipment such as tents, signs, tables, chairs, and art/craft activity stations. They create a welcoming atmosphere, engaging playfully with park users and guests, providing information about PP&R programs, events, opportunities, and news. Arts Pods Counselor I positions assist Specialized Teaching Artists and Arts Pods Counselor IIs to deliver safe, fun, and equitable engagements. Prior experience with arts or music generally enables employees in this position to be more successful. Locations: North Portland, Northeast Portland, East Portland, Outer East Portland, and Southwest Portland Shift Range: Monday through Friday 10:30am-3:30pm Recreation Associate - Counselor I: CMC in the Park Summary: This position sets up/breaks down, stores and tracks equipment and supplies for specialized music activities in parks and monitors music classes, lessons, and ensembles, registered participants and spectators. Provides direction to counselor I staff, works collaboratively with counselors to develop, and lead the daily schedule, role models expectations, provides excellent customer service, and guaranteeing all leftover meals are donated to approved donation sites at the end of each shift. Recreation Associate – Counselor II: Free Lunch + Play Program Support Specialist Position supports Free Lunch + Play sites across the city by role modeling the Counselor II and Counselor I position to staff, teaching staff how to lead crafts, games, and activities; proactively work with youth; and how to promote site programs and activities to the community. Must have previous experience working as a Summer Free Lunch + Play staff member. Recreation Associate – Counselor II: Free Lunch + Play Craft Specialist Provides craft ideas and supports staff in the parks on how to lead crafts to youth ages 3-5 and 6-12 years old for 26 park sites and 2 mobile van programs for the nine-weeks. Provide sites with requested craft supplies weekly, oversees the overall organization and inventory of the main storage area and prepares and distributes craft supplies to all sites. Locations: Based out of Northeast Portland and will drive to 6-8 sites a day across the City. Shift Range: Monday through Friday 8:15am-4:15pm Special Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, be comfortable driving a cargo van, and be able to present a clean 5-year driving record from the DMV. Recreation Associate – Counselor II: Free Lunch + Play Mobile Meal Driver This position supports the two mobile Free Lunch + Play van programs by delivering the free federal lunch meals to two different mobile sites each morning and two different mobile sites each afternoon to parks and apartment complexes in outer east Portland. This requires good time management, promptness, and reliability. In addition, this position will be asked to sub in the mobile program as needed, which includes interacting and playing with children and families.
