Building with Logs
Our Log Building courses are designed to teach basic and complex log building methods.
No construction or carpentry background is needed, just a strong motivation to learn.
All men and women 18-80 years (or younger if accompanied by an adult) are welcome on the courses.
Introduction
When one thinks of a ‘log building’, usually an image of a small ‘cabin’ is conjured up. Something in a remote setting with a porch and fireplace or wood cook stove. The log walls are horizontal, and the corners are notched, one way or another. Typically, chinking is present between the logs. The logwork has been achieved without the benefit of gasoline and chainsaws. Traditional hand tools such as a crosscut saw and axe were the implements of construction.
This program is designed to introduce the ways and means to join logs together in a variety of configurations, at one’s own pace and skill level.
The work yard is setup with individual workstations which enables the student to practice a variety of layout methods, notches, floor, and roof systems.
