Description

Mindful pasta making class: awakening the beginner's mind to mindfulness in the kitchen. The Unity Center invites you to a culinary and medidative experience with Dr. Erika Nichols. "With this practice I invite you to experience mindfulness in the kitchen — a feeling of being in your body and fully inhabiting your senses: We will begin the practice inviting awareness to the present moment with mindful breathing and setting an intention, then proceed to make pasta from scratch by using just water, flour, and your hands. This experience is uniquely you: It invites you to enter and dwell in the mental and physical sensations. As we focus on the act of kneading the dough and shaping the pasta with our hands, we dissolve the boundaries created by our thoughts and allow ourselves to experience the sensations of the present moment." -Erika Nichols We will provide all the ingredients to make the pasta (all purpose flour, semolina flour, or gluten-free flour upon request, water), natural coloring powders, and some basic condiments and plant based sauce. Please feel free to bring your own sauce, cheese, or anything you like. What to bring: A food container for extra dough or pasta to take home with you. If you have any questions, or would like to request gluten-free flour for the event, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. About the teacherErika Nichols finds inspiration in nature and a sense of oneness and joy in the gifts it provides. Erika holds a BA in psychology and a PhD in Cognitive Science. She has been interested in contemplative practices and meditation and how they benefit our brain and mind and had focused her research on the effects of meditation in memory and learning. Erika has been offering several meditation classes and mindful experiences over the years such as introductory meditation, mindful eating classes, and contemplative photography. Together with her husband Khipra, Erika founded Nature’s Atelier, a line of curated experiences and products that promote mindful living inspired by nature. "With Nature’s Atelier we wish to bring awareness to the restorative effects that mindful practices and natural environments have on all of us, offering relaxation, improving our mood and cognitive functions, and stimulating our creativity. Life is a sensory experience and we believe in offering experiences and developing products that focus on the contemplative states of mind, oneness with nature, and the creative experience through arts and craft activities." http://naturesatelier.com
