This play follows the lives of four residents of Jerusalem during Passover the year Jesus was crucified. And while the four are all from different walks of life, they still find themselves connected during the events of the week. These primary characters are: Cliva, a blacksmith; Stovis, a cousin to Cliva through marriage; Macre, a carpenter; and Dolcie, an acquaintance of Macre. They are surprised by the arrival of Jesus to Jerusalem, and confused by His message at first. Early in the play, Jesus tells the crowd onstage of “The Parable of the Soils,” which shows four different ways people respond to the Gospel. Each of these characters represent one of those responses.
