From the City of Colorado Springs: Fri, 11/08/2019 - 3:30pm Fri, 11/08/2019 After 15 weeks of comprehensive training, The Colorado Springs Fire Department is welcoming 16 new firefighters to their ranks. They start their new assignments right away. They have successfully undergone the strenuous instruction it takes to tackle the unique demands of firefighting in our city. During their time at the academy, these recruits developed their proficiency in: Hose management Ground Ladder deployment Ropes and Knots Live fire extinguishment training Search and Rescue Smoke ventilation training Hazardous Material handling Wildland Firefighting Vehicle Extrication Medical skills Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus training Building construction and Fire code education Mayor John Suthers congratulated the graduating class saying, "You are all to be congratulated. Great responsibility and discretion are invested in our public safety officers. Today, you are becoming a part of an outstanding fire department with a great history and tradition."
