Construct a curved rammed earth bench on the sidewalk in front of Eco Centro at this morning workshop, lunch and afternoon demonstration. Rammed Earth Bench Workshop and Demonstration Instructors: Ron Evans of De la Tierra and Stephen Colley of Earthen Construction Initiative Have you heard about the increased interest in building with earth? Please join us while we get some dirt under our fingernails and build a bench using rammed earth techniques. Agenda: 9:00am-12:00pm: Introduction to Earthen Construction, Rammed Earth Bench Workshop 12:00pm-1:00pm: Lunch (box lunch provided) 1:00pm-4:00pm: Live Demonstration: Rammed Earth Bench installed at Eco Centro We will construct a curved rammed earth bench on the sidewalk in front of Eco Centro and top it with a limestone cap. The workshop begins at 9am on Saturday, April 30 with an introductory presentation on earthen construction, followed by the workshop to build the bench. This will be the perfect class for beginners who want to know more about earthen construction as well as getting some valuable “hands-on” experience with regard to soil preparation and actual tamping of the soil in the forms. We will provide safety glasses and earplugs, but we recommend you bring a pair of good work gloves for the tamping if you want to participate in the actual tamping of the soil for the bench. $85 tuition includes a presentation of the basics of earthen construction, learning about soil preparation at the site, placing the soil in the rammed earth forms in a number of lifts, tamping of the soil, refreshments, and a box lunch for the mid-day lunch break. The workshop, lunch, and demonstration will last from 9am to approximately 4pm. Seats are limited, so register quickly! We look forward to seeing you there. Eco Centro is located at 1802 N.
