Description

From the City of Colorado Springs: Posted Tue, 1/28/2020 The Colorado Springs Police Department is now one of only three fully accredited crime labs in the State of Colorado. The CSPD Metro Crime Lab joined the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Denver Police Department on the list in 2019 when they were fully accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (link is external) standards. These standards specify the general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of laboratories. CSPD Metro Crime Lab In 1993, the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office jointly formed a forensic laboratory, which would be responsible for processing scenes of serious crimes. Today, dedicated people who work in chemistry, firearm examination, crime scene investigation, latent fingerprint analysis, DNA analysis, and more staff the CSPD Metro Crime Lab. Since 2008, various units or disciplines of the crime lab have been accredited through the ISO. This is the first time every unit has been accredited.
