The AARP Smart Driver class, offered by AARP Driver Safety, is the nation's first and largest refresher course designed specifically for drivers age 50 and older. For more than 35 years, the course has taught over 16 million drivers proven safety strategies so they can continue driving safely for as long as possible. Courses are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese in a traditional classroom setting taught by AARP-trained volunteers in NJ, thanks to all the host partners. Classes are offered in English and Spanish for online course. The Smart Driver class will help you: Receive a 3-year discount on your auto insurance. Refresh your driving skills and your knowledge of the rules — and hazards — of the road. Reduce your chances of receiving a traffic violation or getting into an accident. The Driver Safety class is recognized as an authorized defensive driving program by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Upon successful completion of this course, licensed drivers of all ages will receive a certificate of completion and may earn an auto insurance premium reduction and a two-point reduction (if applicable). Although the course is geared to drivers age 50 and older, the course is open to people of all ages The classroom class is 6 hours which is usually completed in one or 2 days, costs only $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.
