Description

The theme for this year's Night of Distinction is "Promoting Black entrepreneurship through law, leadership, and mentorship." The Black Students Association at the University of St. Thomas would like to invite you to the 2022 BLSA Night of Distinction. The BLSA Night of Distinction is a formal gala typically attended by members of the legal and professional community. The event will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. The theme for this year's event is centered around black entrepreneurship, leadership, and mentorship. Black businesses will face many challenges in a post-COVID19 world. Covid-19 has exacerbated some of the issues facing the black community. Black entrepreneurs have had to close their doors at more than twice the rate of their White counterparts. Our event will explore this theme with a keynote speech by Judge Stephen L. Smith, District Court judge of Minnesota’s Second Judicial District, on the importance of leadership and mentorship for young black lawyers. Our panel will build on the concepts from the keynote to expand on ways lawyers can be leaders and mentors to black businesses and black entrepreneurs. The goal is to have a conversation about how the legal community can help black entrepreneurs succeed. BLSA will be presenting its inaugural Student Leadership, BLSA Alumni Impact, and Missions awards. Our graduating 3Ls and 2022-2023 E-board will also be recognized at the event.
