DEDHAM, MA - Can a haircut have an impact on heart health? While most would say no, in New England the two are connected by HAIRraising, an annual cut-a-thon that helps to support the Boston Children's Hospital's Benderson Family Heart Center, in which Dedham's Salon Capri will participate on Sunday, April 10. Born with a complex heart defect, 14-year-old Chauncy of Boston has been a long-time patient at Boston Children's Hospital. From multiple operations to rebuild missing parts of her tiny heart, to moving organs and restoring vital connections, Boston Children's heart experts have been a part of it all. Now after a pacemaker and a fifth open-heart surgery this year, this outgoing, creative and accomplished student has begun her high school career thanks in part to the work of her team at Boston Children's. As an expression of her gratitude, Chauncy and her family are encouraging people to get a haircut to help support the hospital. Salons and beauty companies across Massachusetts and New Hampshire are coming together – including Salon Capri in Dedham. Each haircut given at a participating salon will raise money for Boston Children's Hospital and its state-of-the-art Benderson Family Heart Center. The Benderson Family Heart Center is known for having some of the best success rates in the world, with surgical survival rates approaching 99 percent. Now in its 12th year, HAIRraising has raised over $1,000,000 for the Heart Center thanks to the big-hearted salons and supportive clients.
