ATTLEBORO, MA — A chihuahua who was abandoned on the side of the road in North Attleboro last month has found a forever home with the same department that took him.
On Feb. 26, a 12-week-old chihuahua was found in a blue carrier on the side of the road near Draper Ave. The puppy, now named Axel, was being cared for at the North Attleboro Animal Shelter, but police say he quickly stole their hearts.
It didn't take long for the North Attleboro Police Department to take him on as the community mascot, and after weeks of looking for a forever home, Julie Lowe, a North Attleboro Police Officer, and Court Prosecutor decided to adopt Axel herself.
After an investigation, police identified 24-year-old Dominique Scott as his previous owner, who was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals.
She was arraigned on cruelty to animal charges in court last week, pleading not guilty to abandoning Axel.
From now on, Axel will be at Richards Memorial Library every Thursday at 10 a.m. for the storytime event for kids.
