The 4th annual "Raising Expectations: Walking Together with Purpose" Walk will assist NFB of Mobile to reach our Vision for 2022! The 4th annual "Raising Expectations: Walking Together with Purpose " Walk-a-Thon will assist NFB of Mobile to reach our Vision for 2022! Our vision is to simply create more testimonies such as the one below. We are aiming to assist individuals with reaching the full potential in their lives one by one!  Constance Hughes- "Thanks to the National Federation of the Blind, I was afforded the opportunity to attend the 2019 national convention (pre-covid) where I was offered a job opportunity closing federal contracts. I relocated from Mobile, AL and am now living in Huntsville, AL working as a full time employee!"   The NFBAL Mobile Chapter fundraising goal of $5,000 will continue to be used to enhance lives of blind individuals in Mobile and across the state of Alabama.  In previous years, funds raised through the walk has helped the Mobile Chapter provide blind individuals with stipends and convention scholarships for assistance with their attendance at both the annual state and national conventions; where they were introduced to blindness related technology, could seek job opportunities, were informed about current legislation affecting blind individuals, and were able to network with other successful blind professionals. In addition, the Mobile Chapter has and will continue to support programs such as the BELL Academy (Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning) (which helps children ages 4-12 learn braille and other non-visual daily living techniques) and Alabama Association of Blind Students academic scholarships which help blind college students to reach their full potential by knocking down financial barriers.      Participant registration begins at 8:00 AM and the event starts at 9:00 AM. Come walk at your own pace and complete as many laps as you can. Recognition and prizes will be given during award ceremony. Tables will be set up with educational and promotional information for all in attendance. After the Walk-a-Thon is over we will have a post walk party with a DJ, keynote speaker, lunch, and presentation of awards. This is the place to be on May 14, 2022!
