Press release from Freeport Public Schools:
April 5, 2022
Freeport Public Schools hosted a book giveaway for all students in the district as part of the district's #freeportreads initiative. Hundreds of books were donated by Freeport Public School teachers and administrators and were given away to Freeport students in grades pre-K-12.
"Building a love for reading is so important to a successful education," said Mary LaMotta, director of English language arts. "By providing books to the students in our district we are not only helping them enhance their education, but laying the foundation for lifelong learning."
The giveaway took place outside of Freeport High School where students and their families were able to select books in myriad genres and categories, and on all reading levels.
#Freeportreads was established to build engagement and excitement for reading across the Freeport School District and community. Its goal is to promote an active life of literacy among students and families.
