STAMFORD, CT — Police said a 29-year-old Stamford resident accused of assaulting a 66-year-old man could face additional charges following the man's death last month. The man, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized since he was assaulted last May and died in early March of this year, Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department confirmed to Patch on Tuesday. Ohireime Julian Osemobor was arrested on June 6, 2021 and charged with first-degree assault of an elderly person. "It's being examined," Conklin told Patch on if more charges will be filed against Osemobor. "We're waiting for results from the medical examiner to see if that attack had a correlation to this death, to be sure it wasn't due to any other underlying medical conditions. We're waiting for a determination from the medical examiner." According to the Stamford Advocate, Assistant State's Attorney Michelle Manning said Monday during a hearing that the state will wait for testing results the medical examiner before deciding to upgrade charges against Osemobor. According to police, on May 29 around 10 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Main Street and Quintard Terrace in Stamford on a report of a man down on the sidewalk. It was unknown at the time whether the victim fell, or suffered his injuries from foul play, police said. Upon arrival, the 66-year-old victim, who was found unconscious by witnesses, was transported to Stamford Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with a head injury. Through local surveillance video, it was determined that the victim was shoved from behind by a single male suspect, police said. The shove caused the victim to fall and strike his head on the concrete sidewalk. Officers determined the identity of the suspect to be Osemobor through the surveillance footage, police said. While responding to a disturbance call at a motel on the West Side of Stamford on June 6, officers came across Osemobor and arrested him. Police said at the time that Osemobor falsely believed that the victim had accosted a female before the attack. Read more from the Advocate
