Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today: As most New Orleans residents are aware, NOLA has been seeing a major spike in crime as of late. The Metropolitan Crime Commission's recent bulletin has revealed statistics that reflect this trend. Carjackings have increased by 367% since 2019 while homicides have also seen a new peak. You can view more statistics here. (WGNO New Orleans) The National Hurricane Center has released its final report on the strength and effects of Hurricane Ida. Ida tied with two other storms as the strongest to ever hit Louisiana. A total of 55 deaths across multiple states were attributed to the storm, which saw a 9-14 foot storm surge in Louisiana parishes and spawned a total of 13 tornados across Mississippi. You can see the full report here. (WDSU New Orleans) NOPD responded to a call early Tuesday on Chef Menteur Highway where they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a hospital for treatment but NOPD has yet to release any further details regarding his age or condition. They are currently investigating the incident as aggravated by shooting.
