CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — A sunken vessel was found by authorities after about 10 lifejackets were found washed upon the shore in Wildwood Crest on Tuesday, authorities said. New Jersey State Police determined that the debris had come from a sunken vessel. The vessel's owner was quickly located and there were no injuries, officials said. The spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard said that earlier, the Coast Guard had launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City and a 45-foot response boat medium from Cape May. Coast Guard cutter Bonito also patrolled the scene. The discovery was made by local fan page Mind the Tramcar Please, which also found gloves and lights. While the Coast Guard could not supply information about where the items were found, the fan page said the debris was discovered in Wildwood Crest, which was confirmed by state police. Wildwood Crest police released an alert saying to stay clear of the beach as they investigated a possible downed or distressed vessel. NJSP said that the incident is currently under investigation.
