SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Do you need a new social security card or help with filing for benefits?
For the first time since the start of the pandemic, all Social Security offices in California and across the nation, including the three in San Francisco, will reopen.
"I am pleased to announce that local Social Security offices will restore in-person services, including for people without an appointment, on April 7, 2022," Acting Social Security Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi said in a statement released Monday.
While no appointment is necessary, you can make an appointment online to reduce your wait time. You may also be able to complete your business online.
The agency also cautions, "Be aware that our offices tend to be the busiest first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the early part of the month, so people may want to plan to visit at other times."
If you need to talk with someone on the phone, the toll free number is 800-772-1213.
