New Program To Help Morristown Businesses Pay Winter Rent

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown businesses can expect a tough winter because of the coronavirus. But the new "Adopt a Morristown Business" campaign wants to help. Each participating business has a GoFundMe page that's accessible through AdoptaBusinessMorristown.org. Establishments will set up a GoFundMe goal approximating five months of rent. Businesses in need of support can also reach out through the website. Creators of the initiative include Mayor Tim Dougherty, Tom Ferrara, William Draper, Kris Ferrara, Mary Dougherty, Dave Walters and Melissa Anderson. "I know these times are difficult," Dougherty said. "I feel the burden the same as many of our residents. Which is why I am asking all residents, if you can, help us support our community and prevent your favorite shops from closing their doors forever." It's not clear yet which restrictions New Jersey businesses will face this winter. While the state reported more deaths during the first coronavirus wave in the spring, new cases have recently spiked to 3 or 4,000 per day. Indoor dining remains at 25 percent capacity. Earlier this month, Gov. Murphy prohibited indoor drinking and dining from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Read more: Gov.
