PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County District Attorney's office will seek the death penalty against the accused killer of former Penn State star and NFL player Brandon Short's daughter and her unborn child. Isaac Smith has been charged with killing Karli Short, 26, last September. Authorities have said Smith was the father of the unborn child. Brandon Short was a standout football player at McKeesport Area High School who played linebacker at Penn State. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the New York Giants in 2000 and played seven seasons in the NFL with the Giants and the Carolina Panthers. "I want to thank everyone for all their prayers and support during this very difficult time," Brandon Short said in a Facebook post Monday.
