Meet The Filmmaker Behind Documentary On Warren County Disaster

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The documentary filmmaker who illustrated the worst disaster in Warren County's history is coming to Morris County next week to discuss the disaster, a 1925 train crash that left 47 dead. The filmmaker, John W. General, is set to discuss the gruesome crash on Sunday, Feb. 23, at Morris Historical Society's Acorn Hall at 1:30 p.m. The documentary chronicles the story of the Lackawanna Railroad derailment in Mansfield Township wherein a passenger train filled largely with German immigrants derailed, filling passenger cars with hot steam from the train's boiler and leaving 47 dead and 23 injured. "These poor people…were cooked alive," General said during a 2016 interview about the crash. More information about the crash is available at the historical society's ongoing exhibit, "Up in Smoke: Disasters That Made History in Northern New Jersey."
