RICHFIELD, MN —Richfield Liquor has Wild Turkey —the bourbon —inside the store. In recent days, there also has been a wild turkey —the bird —outside the store.
Bill Fillmore, the store's liquor operations director, said he was at the store, located at 6600 Cedar Ave., early Monday when he discovered there was a visitor.
"I hear something knocking on the glass and I thought it was delivery people," Fillmore told Patch. "But it was the turkey sitting at the entryway. I went up to it and took pictures. It didn't run or seem scared."
Fillmore said the turkey spent much of Monday outside the store, and he later learned the bird also had been there on Sunday.
"He let the customers walk by him. He was just hanging out in front of the store," Fillmore said. "(Customers) thought it was great and they were taking pictures. He didn't seem aggressive at all."
Fillmore said the turkey also made a brief appearance Tuesday morning, but likely took cover when it started raining.
Turkeys are visible around Richfield, and Fillmore said they have visited the store in the past, though not recently.
He joked that the bird was the store's new mascot, but said he just hopes the wild turkey stays clear of the street.
"I was concerned that he was going to go into the street and get hit," Fillmore said. " There is a lot of traffic in the area here."
