EDINA, MN — Hundreds of people from around the Edina area teamed up last week to raise money to support Special Olympics in Minnesota. The first-ever "Cool School Polar Plunge" at South View Middle School on March 30 blew its $25,000 goal out of the water, with 247 people raising $41,391 for the organization. The Edina High School Unified team brought in the most donations of any group for the event at South View, raising just over $4,000, according the official Polar Plunge website. Hopkins' Bueckers, UConn Fall To South Carolina In NCAA Final The Creek Valley Unified team was less than $100 behind, raising $3,927 for Special Olympics Minnesota. The team had set a goal of raising $900. March 30 was a big day for Special Olympics Minnesota in Edina, with two Jersey Mike's sandwich shops also raising money for the organization. All Jersey Mike's locations in the U.S. are set to donate 100 percent of their sales from March 30 to local Special Olympics organizations to help send athletes to compete in Florida this summer. Edina Elementary Students Place 3rd In MN Zoo's STEM Challenge The company said it hoped to raise more than $15 million to break last year's donation record. Dozens of Polar Plunge events have been held across the state since October, with 13,832 people raising more than $4 million for Special Olympics Minnesota, according to the organization.
