Beaverton Police Chief Ronda Groshong Announces Retirement

BEAVERTON, OR — Everyone needs a change of pace from time to time. For Ronda Groshong, that realization took 27 years. That's how long Groshong has been with the Beaverton Police Department On Tuesday, Groshong announced that she is retiring. Her last day will be May 1. "The last 27 years with the Beaverton Police Department have been some of the most rewarding years of my life," Groshong said. "I am truly humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to lead such a professional and progressive department." Groshong started as a patrol officer with the department in 1995. After that she worked her way up, serving as a detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain. In June, 2019, she was appointed as chief of the department. The city said that during her tenure, she "worked to expand transparency, increase engagement in neighborhoods, increase available resources to support those experiencing homelessness, and welcome equity training for the department. "She was also instrumental in ensuring essential services were maintained despite he challenges of a multi-year global pandemic." City Manager Jenny Haruyama said that the city will start the process of finding a new chief this spring. "It has been a true pleasure to work alongside Chief Groshong," Haruyama said, adding that she is "an exceptional public servant who is deeply committed to the Beaverton community, police department, and city organization."
