Culver City Crossroads April 5, 2022 United Food and Commercial Workers International Union released a statement on April 4, 2022 that a tentative agreement was reached in negotiations between the union representing Southern California grocery workers and stores including Ralphs and Vons/Pavilions/Albertsons, averting the possibility of a strike for now. UFCW union representation offered, "Once our members have had an opportunity to review and vote, we will release more information on this historic and transformational deal. Nothing is final until our members decide." Robert Branton, vice president of operations at Ralphs: "We are pleased that this agreement allows us to put more money in our associates' paychecks and secures health care and pension plans." A three-year labor contract between the unionized grocery workers and Southern California supermarkets expired March 7. Employees continued to work under the terms of the previous contract. Going into the talks, union representatives were asking for a $5-per-hour wage hike, in increments over the next three years, improved safety standards and "adequate scheduling and hours." The companies had offered an annual 60 cents-per-hour wage increases over the next three years, totaling $1.80. The contract has not been finalized, but the strike is no longer immanent.
