Description

BENICIA, CA — A crash Sunday evening in Benicia resulted in widespread power and internet outages and caused the closure of a local roadway for 24 hours. Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the Benicia Police Department reported the closure of Military West and West 7th Street to the entrance to I-780 because a car collided with a power pole and knocked down power lines. PG&E said 2,409 customers were affected by the outage that started around 5 p.m. Sunday due to the crash at Dillon Point Road just north of Military West. By 6:15 a.m. Monday, power was restored to all impacted customers, PG&E Spokesperson Deanna Contreras told Patch. Monday morning, police announced the roadways would remain closed for several more hours while PG&E and Comcast worked on getting electricity and internet service restored. Shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, police announced that Military West and West 7th Street were reopened. "PG&E crews worked throughout the day to replace the pole and all the equipment on the pole," Contreras said. "It took the whole day, therefore the roads had to be diverted."
