Description
Considering the extreme polarization in our country, I would like to offer some alternate perspectives to immigration:
Refugees
Many of the people attempting to enter the United States are fleeing very violent crime in their home countries south of us. They don't want to leave their homes and travel to a country where they don't know anyone or speak the language, but they fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones. I strongly recommend US citizens try to put themselves in a similar situation.
Jobs
For natural born US citizens who are disappointed about undocumented immigrants taking their jobs, the most effective deterrent is to strongly punish or fine any company that hires undocumented immigrants. If this is important to you, I encourage you to pressure your Congressional Representative and Senators to push for strong enforcement of this.
Love
Most of us in the United States are very privileged compared to most immigrants attempting to enter our country. Free trade agreements and neoliberalism have devastated many of these people who only want to acquire the basic necessities of life for themselves and their loved ones; shelter, food, water, safety, etc. But the majority of US citizens continue to hoard huge amounts of wealth while treating these desperate refugees horribly. That is not love. That is pure greed.
