BOULDER, CO — New traffic signal technology has been added to one of Boulder's busiest intersections, the city announced Wednesday. A 'Pedestrian Protect' feature has been added to the traffic signal at 30th and Walnut streets. The feature keeps the left-turn arrow red for vehicles when a pedestrian pushes the walk button to cross 30th Street, providing extra protection from vehicles waiting to turn. The intersection is currently the only one in the city that has Pedestrian Protect; however the city is looking to add the feature to other intersections, officials said. The city's plan is to "reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities and serious injures to zero," officials said.
