Malden MA

Description

I do not routinely get involved, but feel that residents in the area need to know since I am finding that most residents of these neighborhoods are unaware of what is being built at Suffolk Downs. I am finding that what is being built I find very concerning for all in the densely populated area. Especially since local politicians do not know the facts themselves! It comes to my attention that there was a deal made down at Suffolk Downs to put in a 5 story, 2 bock long BIOLAB. When it was presented to the local Mayor, it was not put in perspective with the details. Important information and facts regarding this lab was not disclosed to the local residents in all communities within close proximity. Everyone appears to be outraged and very much against animal testing and cruelty. No matter what the pharmaceutical and biotech companies tell you, heinous things are done to animals in labs and not just with mice and rats. If you don't believe me go online and look at pictures of what happens to them. "Ethical treatment" to them means killing them at the end of the testing to put them out of their misery. U Mass Amherst just accepted 4 million dollars to test on monkeys! Anyone that accepted this at Suffolk Downs lab project without looking into the details is completely unconscionable and irresponsible. Another extremely irresponsible aspect of this shady deal is the fact that n one thought to ask if the lab could be upgraded to levels that allowed containment of deadly pathogens like ebola, anthrax, etc. There are plenty of labs in the USA and especially Massachusetts! This was a bait and switch if I've ever seen one! Note the BU Lab in Boston is a level 3 lab and even though all of the neghbors protested it was still upgraded to level 3. Please spread the word! It may bring jobs but it is potentially extremely dangerous to the area involved. Thanks for reading!
