Calwood Fire Update: Snow Helps Fire Crews, But Battle Continues

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Snowfall helped crews battle the Calwood Fire, which was 76 percent contained as of Monday. Boulder County removed evacuation orders and evacuation warnings over the weekend. The Calwood Fire remained at 10,105 acres Monday, and 374 personnel were helping to fight the fire. Up to 13 inches of snow fell Sunday and Monday over the regions where the fire is burning, according to the Rocky Mountain Team Black Incident Management Team, which is overseeing the wildfire operations. Troy Hagan, an incident commander, said that "minimum activity was seen in the fire on Sunday given to the storm." "Firefighters will continue fire monitoring for hot spots or some movement. Fire activity is expected to decline extremely given to low temperatures and snow," Hagan said in an update released Monday. "When it ceases to be dangerous, equipment will again start increasing containment by improving and cleaning lines around the fire." On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will reach the 40s. The Lefthand Canyon Fire has been 100 percent contained. The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
