Woman's Dog Killed By Bald Eagle In Colorado

WESTMINSTER, CO — A woman's Pomeranian was killed by a bald eagle in her family's Westminster backyard, KMGH reported. The woman called the attack "horrifying." The woman had moved to Colorado in September with her 3-year-old dog, Saint, according to the report. Her soon-to-be father-in-law took a photo of the eagle in the afternoon and left the Pomeranian and their two other dogs outside. When the family came back from dinner, they saw only two of their dogs, KMGH reported. "And I hear one of the most horrifying sounds of my life," the woman told KMGH. "And I actually heard the bird kill my dog." Attacks on dogs by birds of prey are rare; however many pet owners use silver streamers, reflective tape, pie pans and owl decoys to prevent attacks in their yards, according to PetMD. Many people also build playpens. Tree branches should be pruned to eliminate perches, and bird feeders should be removed from your property.
