A Conversation with Hong Paterson (COM ’93): Insights from Leadership at the World’s Largest Climate Fund Hong Paterson (McIntire ‘93), Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Financial Officer for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) will be on Grounds to speak with students and the broader UVA community on April 19, 2022 from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm in Rouss & Robertson Halls, Room 120. Zoom participation is also available.GCF is the world’s largest climate fund and offers businesses the chance to capitalize on new growth and investment opportunities that can also protect the planet. Students interested in developing their business acumen to solve some of our most urgent and challenging problems should attend. Paterson will share her deep experience funding vital projects throughout the world designed to mitigate climate change while simultaneously fostering resilience in developing countries. She is renowned for using her skill sets in business development strategy and client engagement in concert with her insights into social justice initiatives to have an impact on the sustainability goals set by the Paris Agreement and the United Nations. Before joining the GCF, Paterson gained more than 20 years of global industry experience in financial services with RBC and J.P.Morgan across a variety of sectors, including commercial banking, investor services, and asset management. She uses her expertise at GCF to help developing countries raise and realize their ambitions towards low-emissions, climate-resilient pathways. This is accomplished through GCF investments across four transitions—the built environment; energy & industry; human security, livelihoods and wellbeing; and land-use, forests and ecosystems. Hong is a member of the McIntire School's Global Advisory Board. Check out this article from April 2021 about her work with GCF, the importance of nations outside of the G-20 in combating the issue, and how Hong envisions the fund’s ability to make a difference. Students that attend this seminar will receive early bird registration access for the 2022 Blue Ridge ESG Seminar on October 14-15, 2022.
