ARVADA, CO — Charges have been filed against a man who's accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in Arvada. He was arrested in Arizona and extradited back to Colorado in early June, police said.
Donovan Thorne Walsh, 43, has been charged with first-degree murder, the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Office announced Friday.
Arvada police officers were conducting a welfare check June 5 around 2:15 p.m. after Walsh's family called police with information about Banks-Newton's death, police said. Officers drafted a search warrant and searched her apartment in the 7600 block of West 67th Avenue.

Banks-Newton had a restraining order against Walsh, according to an arrest affidavit.
Walsh is being held at the Jefferson County Jail. In addition to first-degree murder charges, he also faces charges of tampering with a deceased human body, tampering with a witness and violation of a protection order, the DA's office said.
