Wine Tasting: Finger Lakes, New York Ages 21+ We're back in the USA for 2022! Established in 1982, the Finger Lakes AVA is the largest wine-growing region in New York State with approximately 11,000 acres. With similar growing conditions, the area is often compared to Germany's Rhine region! The region gained popularity when Ukrainian immigrant, Dr. Konstantin Frank, proved that vitis vinifera could be grown in the cooler climates of the Finger Lakes. In 1962, he established Vinifera Wine Cellars in Hammondsport, NY and grew Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Cabernet Sauvignon grafted onto native rootstock.  Fast forward to today, there are over 100 wineries in the Finger Lakes region!
