Man Found Guilty In Hit-And-Run That Left Girl Severely Injured

ARVADA, CO — A man was found guilty in an Arvada hit-and-run case that left a 10-year-old girl with severe injuries, the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday. A Jefferson County jury found Jose Morales-Reyes, 51, guilty of leaving the scene with serious bodily injury, reckless vehicular assault, driving while impaired and reckless driving. On Nov. 8, 2019, the girl was walking home from school with her 6-year-old sister along the sidewalk at 58th and Carr, when Morales-Reyes drove over the curb and struck the 10-year-old, the DA's office said. The jury heard testimony that he continued along the curb for 65 feet and left the area, the DA's office said. He then drove in a large circle, passing back by the crash scene before he returned and turned himself in to police, according to authorities. Her 6-year-old sister was not injured. Morales-Reyes' sentencing has been set for Oct. 30. He faces up to nine years in prison.
