Man Charged With Murder In Connection With Roommate's Death

ARVADA, CO — A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a homicide in Arvada, the Jeffco DA's office announced Thursday. The body of Joseph Elsey was found Sept. 6 in Silver Plume, police said. Tyler Condit, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder after deliberation, tampering with a deceased human body, tampering with physical evidence and two violent crime counts, the DA's office said. On Aug. 29, Elsey's friends notified police that the last time they saw him was Aug. 24. Officers were called just before midnight to an apartment in the 6400 block of Simms Street, where they found "blood and signs of an attempted clean-up," the DA's office said. Investigators learned that the two men were roommates, and they were unable to find Elsey. Elsey's body was found Sept. 6 in the 700 block of Silver Valley Road in Silver Plume, according to the Arvada Police Department. The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation. Condit is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Court jail. His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 9.
