GOLDEN, CO — A man was sentenced to 24 years in prison for an armed carjacking in Arvada, the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.
Joseph Saiz, 25, pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to aggravated robbery, vehicular assault and menacing. The day of the carjacking, Saiz was on bond and on probation in two other counties, and had committed three previous felonies, the DA's office said.
On Dec. 14, 2019, Arvada police were called to the 5900 block of W. 68th Avenue after a report of an armed carjacking. Saiz forced a man to the ground at gunpoint and stole his truck, the DA's office said. Crystal Trujillo, 23, was with Saiz and she also got into the truck, officials said.
Officers attempted to arrest Saiz in a traffic stop, but he sped off and made a u-turn, police said. He then crashed into multiple vehicles and injured a 75-year-old woman, according to the DA's office.

He continued on three wheels in the damaged truck until it came to a stop, and then he jumped out and ran away. Officers chased Saiz and he fired shots, police said.
Other law enforcement agencies, a police helicopter and K9 units were called to assist with the chase, but Saiz was able to get away.
He was later found and arrested Jan. 8.
Trujillo pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to robbery and false reporting. Her sentencing has been set for Sept. 28.
