Description
CROFTON, MD — A fire broke out late Thursday night in a Crofton townhouse located in the middle of a group of townhomes. The Nov. 7 fire consumed the two-story structure at 1610 Mount Airy Court. Almost 50 firefighters from two departments responded, battling flames for nearly half an hour before the fire was under control.
According to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, smoke was pouring out of the front of the home and "heavy fire" was located in the basement area toward the back of the home. Two adults and four children were asleep when the fire broke out, but were able to safely escape. The fire was contained to the one townhome. The two adjacent homes did not sustain smoke or fire damage.
The six residents of the townhome have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Occupants of the neighboring townhomes also had to find lodging elsewhere last night because utilities were shut off. The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
