JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — More than 5,800 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Jefferson County, and 572 people have been hospitalized, the latest public health data shows. As of Wednesday morning, 252 people have died in the county, according to Jefferson County Public Health. Among Jeffco municipalities, Edgewater has the highest coronavirus rate (18.09), followed by Wheat Ridge (15.72) and Lakewood (12.72). Under the state's new coronavirus dial, Jefferson County is in 'Level 2: Concern.' In order to move into the less-restrictive Level 1 - 'Cautious', the county needs to meet and sustain three metrics for two weeks: New cases: How much the virus is circulating in a countyPercent positivity: Whether there is sufficient COVID-19 testing to capture the level of virus transmissionImpact on hospitalizations: Whether hospitalizations are increasing, stable or declining Over the past week, 4,626 new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Colorado, according to public health data. Over the past month, the state has seen a spike in cases, which is not just linked to college students, Gov. Jared Polis said in a news conference Sept.22. "This is a warning sign for us, just as we had a warning sign in July, and we were able to correct course," Polis said. "We need to do a bit better." As of Tuesday, 70,025 people have been infected with the coronavirus in our state among 902,242 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 7,558 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll has reached 1,952.
