JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — More than 5,800 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Jefferson County, and 572 people have been hospitalized, the latest public health data shows. As of Wednesday morning, 252 people have died in the county, according to Jefferson County Public Health. Among Jeffco municipalities, Edgewater has the highest coronavirus rate (18.09), followed by Wheat Ridge (15.72) and Lakewood (12.72). Under the state's new coronavirus dial, Jefferson County is in 'Level 2: Concern.' Over the past month, the state has seen a spike in cases, which is not just linked to college students, Gov. Jared Polis said in a news conference Sept.22. "This is a warning sign for us, just as we had a warning sign in July, and we were able to correct course," Polis said. "We need to do a bit better."
